BY THE BODY
A new novel from W. Jefferson Smith
BY THE BODY
(Moons of Yautenhim #2)
The eyes of the Hegemony see all.
Yri Eriksson, conscientious deserter from the Hegemony of Midrech, is outcast and far from home on Brigo, a world that once was her enemy. She has made her bed with foreign soldiers and spirit-imbued casters, struggling with them together to maintain Brigo’s sovereignty in the face of the overwhelming power of Yri’s former comrades.
The Hegemony is a hair’s breadth from exterminating all life on Brigo. It hunts Yri relentlessly.
But what awakens Yri in the night in a cold sweat are the dreams she’s been having lately; Dreams of an old friend long dead, and a disembodied voice whispering a tale she doesn’t understand. Can she decipher these dreams before she and her new friends are annihilated by the fiery weapons of their adversary? Will the mystery hidden in her visions save them from their fate?
Don’t miss By the Body, the heart-pounding sequel to The Fragment.

THE FRAGMENT
(Moons of Yautenhim #1)
The heart of the Hegemony is rotten.
Yri Eriksson is a career soldier for the Hegemony of Midrech, the most powerful military force in her star system. She has never doubted that she is one of the “good guys.” She has never questioned her mission to spread the Hegemony’s manifest destiny. That is, until her combat unit lands on the surface of a new world and starts butchering innocents in the name of progress. It’s all Yri can do to save a handful of the locals from a firing squad of her fellow patriots.
Among the people of this new world is a man imbued with astonishing powers Yri doesn’t understand. Will she learn what he is capable of in time, or will she underestimate him until it’s too late?
Yri must suddenly make a choice she never saw coming. Will she side with the malignant system that birthed her, or the hopelessly outclassed people whose fate she now holds in her hands?
Begin the Journey
W. Jefferson Smith was born in a Navy hospital and grew up in Texas under the watchful eyes of a professional editor and a science fiction fanatic. It was destiny he would make the questionable choice to pursue creative writing and pen his own spaceship and robot stories. The Aliens Come to Earth, his first book, was chosen by his 2nd-grade teacher to be printed and bound in hard cover, and he’s been writing ever since.
Along the way, Smith worked at an Army fishing resort in Alaska, soloed for his private pilot’s license, and learned what he didn’t want to do for a living. Now, Smith pays for his writing addiction by working a day job as an instructional designer. He lives in Southern Utah where he explores the outdoors, gets overly competitive about video games, and watches unhealthy amounts of anime.
